Fishing O’Fallon Park

Middle  one of the prettier and more easily accessible places I’ve fished. There are a lot of spots where decent pools and runs are easily accessible from the shore. The park itself is most of the run but the river above and below the park are also fairly nice. There are quite a few sections that are off limits due to being private property, but they’re clearly marked and easily avoided as long as you’re willing to walk along the road.

When I showed up at about 7:30am I was one of the one of the only people there. The people steadily increased, though there were no more than a few fishermen the entire time. I headed a bit further toward Kittredge down the river to the west. It was a bit closer to the road but nobody there and the traffic was relatively light and I didn’t see anyone except a couple people walking dogs and the like. Later in the day I went back through the park itself where there were quite a few people playing in the water and a Church dunking people in the water. It was still fairly easy to find a spot without too many people disturbing the fish.

I got the most bites on red and brown nymphs. I ended up pulling in a couple very small fish, a brown and maybe a rainbow. The water was running a bit fast so finding good pools was tough and the water was a little cloudy. I expect the “sweet spot” for the water flow is tight though, as it seems like it could easily go from too much to too little water. Definitely worth checking the reports.
